Melba Thomas Jones

Melba Thomas Jones, 91, of Malad, passed away Saturday, January 31, 1998, in the Oneida County Long Term Care Facility of causes incident to age. She was born November 15, 1906 in St. John, a daughter of Thomas S. and Emma M. Thomas. She was raised and educated in St. John and was a graduate of Malad High School. She later attended the Southern Branch of the University of Idaho and earned a teaching degree.

She married Leland D. Jones on June 23, 1928 in Bountiful City, Utah. She managed the Evans Coop in Malad during the Second World War years and taught in the public school in Malad and in a parochial school in Pocatello. Since her husband’s death and her retirement in 1972 she has lived in Malad.

She is survived by a son, Lamont (Ilene) Jones of Pocatello; and one daughter, Margaret J. Zaun of Irvine, California; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her nine sisters and brothers.

Memorial services were held Monday, February 2, 1998 in the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.

Services included an invocation by Spence Horsley; Musical number by Susy Doying, accompanied by Myra Jean John; Life Sketch by David L. Evans; 23 Psalm by Todd Zaun; Tributes by Lauren Zaun and Ilene Jones; with the benediction by Ilene Jones.

Pall Bearers were grandchildren, Todd Zaun, Suzanne Zaun, Jedd Zaun, Lauren Zaun; nephews, Scott Thomas, Khalil Thomas; and Honorary Bearers, Lance Jones, Lisa Jones, Michelle Zaun.

Out of town guests were Lauren, Todd and Brooke Zaun, Manhatten Beach, California; Suzanne Zaun, and Michelle and Jedd Zaun, Newport Beach, California; Neva and Cy Nielsen, and Peggy Layton, Salt ?????.
