Melba Jones Bloxham

Melba Rae Jones Bloxham passed away July 17th, 2015 at Copper Summit Assisted Living Center in Pocatello, ID. Melba was born July 31st, 1929 at Cherry Creek, ID to John B. & Veda E. Jones. Melba grew up in Cherry Creek & attended schools in the area. She graduated from Malad High School. Melba met Dean “Joe” Bloxham, after he returned from the war, at the LeGrand Dance hall in Malad, ID They were married May 23, 1948 at the home of the bride’s parents in Cherry Creek, ID The wedding was later solemnized on March 2nd, 1965 at the LDS Temple in Logan, UT. Melba worked at R. V. Daniels Drug Store, & J. N. Ireland Bank as a secretary – clerk. After Joe & Melba were married they moved to Downey, ID. Melba enjoyed attending American Legion Auxiliary, where she held several positions. She was secretary of the Downey fair board. She was an active member of the LDS Church & enjoyed the positions she held. Joe & Melba really enjoyed traveling to Preston, ID to bowl in a league for many years. Melba taught 4-H to her girls & their friends for many years. Melba & Joe purchased the former Anderson Lumber Co. in Downey, ID in 1965 & later changed the name to Downey Lumber Co. They operated their family owned business for 47 yrs. Melba & Joe worked very hard together in this business. During this time they enjoyed going to all the sporting events & activities of their children and grandchildren. They really enjoyed attending ISU football games, where they held season tickets. Melba moved to Copper Summit Living Center in July of 2014. She really enjoyed the company of everyone at the center & visiting with the residents. She especially enjoyed all the music that was held at the center. Her favorite past time was playing bingo & going for a ride around the area with the center’s coordinator & others from the center. She especially enjoyed stopping for ice cream. Melba is survived by her 4 children, Rick (Karen), Wendy (Clark ), Jody, & Jeff (Juli), 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 5 sister-in-laws, 4 brothers in law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, in-laws, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and 2 brothers-in-law. The family would like to thank & recognize all those at Copper Summit & Encompass Home Health Care for assisting in taking care of mom. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 1:00 pm in the Downey Ward Chapel with Bishop Dan Lewis conducting. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 11:00-12:45 prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Downey Cemetery.
