Maxine Peterson Horsley

Maxine Peterson Horsley, 77, former longtime Downey resident and wife of E. Raymond Horsley, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 1998 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born November 16, 1921 on the family farm in Pocatello Valley, near Malad, a daughter of Joseph F. An Hannah Dunkerly Spence Petersen. She grew up and was educated in Malad, and later attended Utah State University.

On March 21, 1941 she married E. Raymond Horsley in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

Maxine and Raymond worked side by side in several businesses through the years. They had resided in Malad, Midvale, Utah, Blackfoot, and for several years had owned and operated Downata Hot Springs in Downey.

Since 1974 they had resided in Cache Valley, where Maxine had worked in real estate and later for the Budge Medical Clinic.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ off Latter-day Saints, and had served in Primary, Sunday School, the Young Women’s organization, was a ward Relief Society president, an with her husband was a temple officiator.

Maxine loved people, was compassionate to all, and especially enjoyed being with her family, friends and the little children in her ward.

She is survived by her husband, of Logan, Utah; three sons, Raymond (Lynda), of Taylorsville, Utah, E. Spence (Debbie), of Malad, and H. Scott (Christine), of Burley; one foster daughter, Connie (Gene) Yearsley of Preston; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, six foster grandchildren, five foster great-grandchildren; two sisters, Verla Rieske of Salt Lake City, and Colleen (Alden) Camp of Murray, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 23, in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
