Mattie Martha Williams Treasure

DOWNEY – Mattie Martha Williams Treasure. 82, of Downey, died Thursday, Sept., 30 in the Oneida County Hospital in Malad.

She was born Dec.1 1910, in Cherry Creek, a daughter of Edwin and Lucy Emma Green Williams. She grew up and was educated in Cherry Creek and Malad, and as a young woman, had worked for the Kress Store in Ogden, Utah.

She married John Treasure of Marsh Valley, Dec 13, 1930 in Preston, Idaho, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in May, 1964. They made their home in Downey, where he farmed and ranched. She worked for the Downey Elementary School as a cook for 18 years. Mr. Treasure died Dec 21, 1984.

She was an active member of the Downey 1st Ward, and had served in many callings. She had been a member of the Ward Singing Mothers, Ward Choir and had also been a member of the Downey Madrigal Choir. She loved music, flowers, cooking and her family. She is survived by five sons, two daughters and their spouses; Monte Jack and Donna Treasure of Aberdeen; Sheldon Dale and Jeanette Treasure of Ogden, Utah. Robert “Bob” and Roxie Treasure of Malad; Barry and Diane Treasure of Idaho Falls and Ronald “Ron” Ray Treasure of Raleigh, North Carolina; Faye and Richard Jones of Ogden, Utah and Marilyn and Arnold “Junior” Naef of Downey. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Mattie was the last child of a family of 18 children, and was also preceded in death by her husband, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct 4 at noon in the Downey LDS 1st Ward Chapel. Bishop Gary Barnes, officiating. Friends may call at the Marsh Valley Funeral Home in Arimo this evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday at the Church in Downey from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in Downey City Cemetery.
