Mary White Atkinson

Mary White Atkinson, 81, lifetime Malad-area resident, died Saturday (August 24, 1991) at the Oneida County Hospital.

She was born August 26, 1909, in Pleasantview, a daughter of George Arthur and Ivy Fredricka Ericzon Wight White. She grew up and was educated in Pleasantview, and had lived in Ogden, Utah, Samaria, and later Malad.

She married David R. Atkinson January 30, 1935, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She had worked as a housekeeper, caring for children, as a cook at the Samaria school, and as a pie maker for the Dude Ranch Café in Malad. She spent most of her life as a homemaker.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had been a counselor in the Relief Society presidency, a Relief Society teacher, Primary and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed handicrafts and had quilted many quilts.

She is survived by her husband, of Malad; three sons, Clarence W. Atkinson, Paris, Idaho, Arthur H. Atkinson, Brigham City, Utah, and Roger A. Atkinson, Sandy, Utah; one daughter, Mrs. Max (Ivy) East, Ogden, Utah; 21 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren; one brother, Stephen J. Wight, Yuma, Arizona; and three sisters, Margaret W. Steimle, West Jordon, Utah, Ivy W. Conae, Yuma, Arizona, and Mrs. George (Martha) Cook, Montpelier, Idaho. She was preceded in death by a son, David Sheldon Atkinson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at noon in the Malad LDS Fifth Ward Chapel with Bishop Craig Sperry, officiating. Burial was in the Pleasantview Cemetery.
