Mary Jean Thomas

(May 20, 1951 – March 7, 2016)

Mary Jean Thomas, 64, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, peacefully at her home from a lingering illness. She was married to the love of her life, Kim Martel Thomas for 46 years. She was the daughter of E. Eugene Healey and Mary Afton Healey. She was the third of six siblings and the mother of seven children.

Mary was born in Hemet, CA and moved and raised in Florida for 12 years, after which the family moved to Spanish Fork, UT. She met her husband at a funeral in Downey, Idaho and Idaho became the center of her life.

She was very active in the LDS church holding a lot of positions, but scouting was her life and she helped many scouts receive their Eagles. Because of her many years of scouting leadership she was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boy Scouts of America. Music was an important part of her life, serving as organist in Swan Lake Ward for 22 years, never missing a Sunday until her failing health prevented her from doing so.

The love of service accompanied Mary her entire life. She loved sewing and marking and doing quilts for loved ones and selling them from Thomas Merc. Mary’s home was always open to helping others.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother and two daughters. She is survived by her husband Kim Thomas and children: Aniesha (Bud) Chapel, Jenilyn (Justin) Jensen, Jonathan (Evelyn) Thomas, Martel (Kristin) Thomas and Paul (Lisa) Thomas. She has 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and her siblings, 2 brothers and 3 sisters and many nieces and nephews. Megumi Oba, an exchange student, became an accepted member of the family. She and her son Sho have continued to be close to all family members. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 12 noon in the Swan Lake LDS Chapel. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and prior to the services on Thursday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Swan Lake Cemetery
