Mary Christensen Pett Barraclough

Mary Christensen Pett Baraclough, age 84, passed away on October 23, 2003 in Boise, Idaho.

Mary was born on August 25, 1919 in Holbrook, ID in her parents little farm house, to Martin David Christensen Pett and Mary Louella Bingham Pett. Her mother died when Mary was three years old. Mary was raised on the family farm in Holbrook. She enjoyed riding her horse. Mary graduated from high school at Malad as Valedictorian. She attended Utah State and Boise State College, majoring in education. She was a substitute teacher in the Boise School District.

Mary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and prior to marriage served a mission in the Central States Mission. Mary worked for the Church Genealogical Society for three years. She married John A. Barraclough in the Salt Lake Temple, June 6, 1946. They settled in Boise where they raised five children.

Mary was loved for her wit and humor. She became well known for performing theatrical readings and producing and directing church road shows. Mary wrote poetry and humorous songs for the entertainment of friends and family. Mary played the piano and was accompanist for choirs and vocalists. Mary and John were active in Senior Citizen groups and loved to attend the Senior’s dances. Mary and John served two additional church missions during their retirement.

Mary is survived by her husband of 57 years, John; her children: J. Martin (Sally) Barrclough, Salt Lake City, UT; Maralynda (William) Morriss, Nampa, ID; Robert A. (Marilyn) Barraclough, Flagstaff, AZ; and Brent (Jana) Barraclough, Salem, OR; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Neva) Pett, Salem, OR and David Pett, Provo, UT. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy, and Nancy’s son, Samuel.
