Marjorie May Laws Vaughan


Malad…Marjorie May Laws Vaughan passed away Monday, December 31, 2012, at the Oneida County Hospital in Malad. She was born March 1, 1927 to Joseph William and Effie May Call Laws, one of eight brothers and sisters. She was raised and educated in the Malad area.
She married Donald Swenson Vaughan September 21, 1944, the marriage later solemnized at the Logan L.D.S. Temple August 8, 1955.
She worked at Crowther Brothers Milling Company, Oneida County Hospital and as an election judge. She was known throughout the area as an excellent cook and seamstress. She made many beautiful quilts and items of clothing for children, grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as many friends and neighbors. She had been honored as “Homemaker of the Year” at the Oneida County fair. In her earlier years, she had an impeccable yard and a huge garden and shared the harvest with many.
Active in the L.D.S. Church, she held many positions including Primary and Young Women’s President and was a visiting teacher in the Fifth Ward. She had a love of family, music and helping others.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Malad, sons, Steven, Malad, Sherman (Judy), McCammon, and Sheldon (Janice), Malad, along with 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren plus one on the way. Also surviving are brothers Douglas (Verna) of Layton, Utah and Irvin (Thelda), also of Layton, Utah. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Joseph, Thomas, John, and sisters Faye and Ruby.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Oneida County Long Term Care Center for the kindness and love shown to her during her stay there.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS 5th Ward Chapel, 20 S. 100 W. Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W 300 N. and again on Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
