Marguerite Kent Ruegsegger

Marguerite Kent Ruegsegger, 93, longtime resident of Oneida County, died Friday, June 11, 1993, at her home in St. John. She was born February 11, 1900, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, a daughter of Rufus Protsman and Elizabeth Mcgee Roope. She was raised in Chandler, Oklahoma, and was a graduate of Oklahoma State University, with a degree in education and home economics.

She had taught in Elgin, Nebraska, and Evanston, Wyoming, and from 192-1925 at Malad High School.

She married Melvin Uriah Kent, May 29, 1925, at Evanston, Wyoming. The moved to St. John, where they homesteaded a farm. Mr. Kent died December 27, 1932 leaving her with three small children. On September 6, 1934, she was married to John Ruegsegger in Logan, Utah, and he died December 7, 1970.

She had been an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Malad, having served as organist for many years, as well as teaching the adult class. She was a member of the Acacia Chapter of the Eastern Star, and a member of the St. John Daughter of the Pioneers. She was an active member of the Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robert(Lois Kent) Hess of Malad; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Ted Mohler of Ogden, Utah, and Richard Mohler of San Bruno, California. She was preceded in death by her children, Brian Kent, Kenneth Kent and Rosemary Kent Wilkins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 17, at 11 a.m. in the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home. Reverend Jonathan Rice of the Malad Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery.
