Lynn Hyde Merrill

Swan Lake, Idaho……Lynn Hyde Merrill, 77, lifelong resident, farmer and rancher in Swan Lake, passed away on March 8, 2012, in Logan, Utah. He was born November 30, 1934, in Downey, Idaho, the fourth of six children born to E. Lionel and Alda Hyde Merrill. He was raised in Swan Lake and attended school there as well as in Downey, where he was a graduate of Downey High School. He also attended Brigham Young University. As a young man on a field trip to Richmond, Utah, he met and later married the “love of his life”, Fay Toler. They were wed July 6, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. Following their marriage, they moved to the family farm in Swan Lake, where they raised 4 children and had since farmed and ranched. Lynn enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved hunting, fishing, picnics, outings with the family, and snowmobiling. He was known by everyone as a “tease” and loved to play tricks on friends and family alike. Lynn was also known as someone who truly cared for his neighbor, who was giving of his time and his service to others. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he had served in many capacities, including 28 years in the Swan Lake Bishopric, and where he twice served as the Bishop. He with his wife, Fay, served in the Germany, Frankfort LDS Temple mission and also as Ordinance Workers in the Logan LDS Temple. Temple work was the highlight of their lives. Lynn is survived by his children; Debra (Wesley) Wardell of Clifton, Idaho; Bart (Diane) Merrill of Enterprise, Utah; Glen (Julia) Merrill of Swan Lake; Randy (Elizabeth) Merrill of Herriman, Utah and Tamra (Douglas) Moyle of Clifton, Idaho. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. a brother: Louis (Beverly) Merrill of Indianapolis, IND.; 2 sisters; Patricia “Patsy” Nager of Quartsite, AZ. and Joan (Reed) Davis, serving an LDS mission in Brazil. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 55 years, Fay Toler Merrill, who passed away July 7, 2008, two sisters; Lucille Brock and Betty Lou Linford and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 12 noon in the Swan Lake LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Alan Kay, officiating. Friends may visit with the Merrill family on Tuesday evening March 13, from 6-8 pm at the Swan Lake church and on Wednesday prior to services from 10:30-11:45 am. Burial will follow in the Swan Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home.
