Lurline Anderson James Budge

Life long Malad resident, Lurline Anderson James Budge, 94 died Friday, March 27, 1998 at the home of her daughter in Iona, Idaho of causes incident to age having received the loving care and attention of Don and Doris during her final days.

She was born September 23, 1903 in Wanship, Utah, the daughter of John Weber and Elizabeth Wikoff Young Anderson. When she was eight years old her parents moved the family of four children to Malad. This journey, by horse and buggy, was one of Lurline’s fondest memories. On December 6, 1923 she married David Woozley James. To this union four sons and one daughter were born. David died September 18, 1936. After all of her children were married, she was remarried on November 29, 1956 to Thomas Francis Budge in the Logan LDS Temple. With Just over one year of love and happiness together Francis died on December 3, 1957.

She was educated in the Malad Schools and attended Idaho State University and the University of Idaho. She taught school in Holbrook, Idaho for two years and later as adult education teacher for Oneida County. She was employed for four years as reporter and bookkeeper in The Idaho Enterprise. She was elected Oneida County Treasurer and served proudly and diligently in that office for 28 — Treasurers Association. She is known in the community for her beautiful home with its spacious yard and flowers. She was an avid quilter, having received many ribbons for her quilts in the county fairs. Many homes, both within her family and others, have been graced by the quilts she designed and stitched. She served as YMMIA president, Sunday School teacher and was several times on the stake Sunday School board. On February 24, 1972, she left Malad for South Florida to fulfill the lifelong desire of serving a proselyting mission for the LDS Church.

She was a lady of great culture and refinement. She had a beautiful soprano voice and many community and church occasions were blessed by her music. Several original music compositions came from her. She was a gifted poetess having had an anthology of her poems published and having received awards for her literary contributions.

Throughout her life she unselfishly gave of her self to all with whom she came in contact. She was known as “Grandma” to many not of her family. Her home was always a place of warmth, love and good food. She loved to feed people. It was the gathering place for all her friends and relatives. She had a deep, unreserved and abiding love for her family and they in turn adored her. She was a true matriarch and a great example to all who knew her.

Lurline is survived by two sons, her daughter, and their spouses: Dr. Garth A (Charlene) James of Provo, Utah, Mrs. Don (Doris) Nield of Iona, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and John A. (Zelda) James of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 25 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Mrs. Lucile Gibbs of Wendell, Idaho, many nieces and nephews, and step-daughters Donna Woodbury and Mrs. Jerry (Lou Jean) Kemp of Bountiful, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husbands; sons, Robert A. (Bob) James, and David A. James; stepsons Thomas Morgan Budge, Keith M. Budge and Khalil M. Budge; 2 great-great-grandsons; and her brothers, John William (Bill) Anderson, and Dr. Grant Y. Anderson.
Funeral services were held in the Malad 5th Ward Chapel on Tuesday, March 31, 1998. Burial —
