Lola Michaeline Burton Salvesen

Lola Michaeline Burton Salvesen, 101, of Downey, Idaho passed away Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center in Downey, Idaho of natural causes.
Lola was born October 13, 1911 in Virginia, Idaho to Michael Victor Burton and Sarah (Sadie) Henrietta Goble. Lola attended school at Virginia and Downey, Idaho. She studied nursing in Ogden, Utah for a year and a half after High School then returned to Virginia, Idaho.
Lola’s father, Michael Victor Burton homesteaded in Virginia and Lola loved to help him on his farm. Her mother and father met in Wells, Nevada while Michael was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad.
On June 1st 1934, Lola married the love of her life, Orville (Bud) Orbon Salvesen from Downey, Idaho. They soon moved to the family Homestead east of Downey, and settled in for forty years of blood, sweat and tears farming and ranching. They dry farmed grain and raised Hereford cattle.
Fishing in Marsh Creek was one of Lola’s favorite pastimes. She took lots of young boys fishing with her and taught them how to use the bare basics to catch the native Brook trout.
Orville and Lola didn’t have any children of their own but they employed, taught and made hard working young men out of the neighbor and town kids. She loved the youth and inspired many. Lola was a wonderful cook with lots of experience from feeding the hay and thrashing crews. No one went hungry. Nature was her first love and she could be tough as nails when needed. Loaded with common sense, she managed to survive the farm life then retired to Downey, Idaho with Orville in 1977.
In Downey she served the community and county by being a 4-H leader and fair competitor. Her crocheting was unmatched by anyone in quality and beauty. Her long term memory was amazing and will be sorely missed.
Lola is survived by several nephews, nieces and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sister’s. Pauline Burton, Alba Arndt and Erma Donaldson.
