Lila Condie Bjorkman

Lila Condie Bjorkman, 90, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008 in Star, Idaho. Funeral services were held on May 19, 2008 at the Emmett LDS Church. A short graveside service was held the same day at 4 p.m. at the Malad City, Idaho cemetery.

Lila was born June 13, 1917 in Preston, Idaho to Joseph Condie and Ida Baker Condie. She attended schools in Thatcher, Idaho and Montebello, California, and graduated from Thatcher High School in 1934. She attended Stevens-Henager Business School in Salt Lake City, Utah from 1934-1936. She married Arnold Bjorkman on February 17, 1940 at Thatcher. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple in 1975. They moved to Malad City, Idaho in 1941, where she helped Arnold operate a petroleum products distributorship for about 40 years.

She enjoyed being of service to those who needed an encouraging word and a friend. One of her most enjoyable projects was co-producing and co-directing a variety show for two years to raise money for polio treatment and research. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties and interior decorating. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a primary teacher, Relief Society secretary and a visiting teacher. She and Arnold moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1985. He passed away later that year. Lila married Ed Pratt in 1986. They were divorced in 1992, but remained good friends until his death in 1997. She thought of his four daughters as her own. In 2003, she was no longer able to care for herself, and was cared for by her son and daughter-in-law in their home for four years. During the last year of her life she was cared for by wonderful caregivers in an assisted living facility in Star, Idaho.

Lila was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Colby Robert Durtschi, five brothers and two sisters. Her sister, Phyllis Savel, followed her in death by two days. She is survived by her children; Arline (Spencer) Ward of Hyrum, Utah, and Ron (Marilyn) Bjorkman of Emmett, Idaho, 16 grandchildren, one foster grandchild and 35 great-grandchildren.
