Lewis E. Morgan

A memorial service was held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel on December 23, 1998, at Burns, Oregon for Lewis E. Morgan. Mr. Morgan, age 83, died December 18, 1998, at Harney District Hospital from a stroke.

Mr. Morgan was born July 5, 1915, to Edmond and Catherine Lewis Morgan at St. John, Idaho. He grew up on the family farm at Deep Creek, being one of 12 brothers and sisters.

Lewis graduated from Malad High School in 1933, and later entered the United States Navy. He served on the USS Tulsa and the USS Lexington. He was honored for bravery and valor during the Battle of Soochow Creek, Shanghai, China, in 1937.

He was honorably discharged from the service and returned to the family farm in Malad where he was active in scouting, 4-H, the Red Cross first aid and swimming programs, and search and rescue. Lewis was one of the original members of the Malad Valley Posse and supported many community and county events including the fair and rodeo.

Following a previous marriage to Emily Helen Vaughan, Lewis married Diane Molt in 1972, at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Mr. Morgan moved to Burns in 1978, and spent his life giving of himself to all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Mr. Morgan spent his entire life working as a farmer and rancher. He enjoyed ranching, gardening, landscaping, woodworking, teaching horsemanship and sharing his knowledge of cattle with kids of all ages.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Diane Morgan, of Burns; children: Christine Gillies of San Diego, California; Virginia Moss of Lewisville, Idaho; Diane C. Molt of Placentia, California; Morgan Strang, William Molt, and Louis Molt, all of Burns; brothers: William B. Morgan of Missoula, Montana; Glen D. Morgan of Lewiston, Idaho; Cleve Morgan of Soda Springs, Idaho; and Ed Morgan Jr. of Moscow, Idaho; sisters: Lydia Thomas of Centralia, Washington; Katherine Tovey of Hermiston, Oregon; and numerous grandchildren and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
