Leora Ipsen Brown, 89, finished her work on earth Thursday, June 20th 2013. She was living in the Malad Long Term Care, where she had been for 1 year. She was born Oct. 23, 1923 in Pleasantview, Idaho at the home of her parents. She was joined by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Being the oldest she always worked outside with her Dad, helping with the farm work and milking. She went to school her first eight years in Pleasantview and then to Malad for High School. She was 15 when she first noticed and “set her hat” for her husband-to-be, Leo H. Brown. They were in the roadshow together, going from ward to ward. Leo being older than she tried to steer clear of her at first but they ended up married three years later on October 29, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. Being married in the temple and sealed to her husband for time and eternity was the high spot of her life. To this union was born 5 children – James Leo, Dennis Ruel, Boyd Devon, Roy Allen, and Janiel. She lived on the family farm where she raised her family in a beautiful house built in 1900. She loved going to the temple and enjoyed the bus rides with her friends to the temple in Logan in her later years. She served at the Conference Center in Salt Lake for two years which she loved. She did many years of judging at the surrounding County Fairs. Leora had a beautiful voice and sang at many different occasions. She sang at more than 200 funerals. Leora sang with the Malad Commuity Choir for many, many years. In 1956, Leora went back to school to become a nurse. She always wanted to be a nurse. Through the years she worked for many of the Dr.’s that have served in Malad as their nurse. She gave the “best” shots and had compassion and kindness for the patients. She found nursing to be a very rewarding and loved it. She loved to keep her hands busy with crocheting, quilting and gardening. She produced beautiful quilts for each grandchild and crocheted around many baby blankets and bibs. She grew a large beautiful garden each year and shared the bounty with friends and neighbors. She loved to do geneology and worked many years doing extraction in her home. Leora loved to go for rides around the Malad Valley and look at the beautiful mountains that surrounded it. She loved the Malad Valley! She was also quite a scrapper and made many books for all of her family. She had a very special friend all of her life, Josephine May. They were born two weeks apart and lived in Pleasantview their entire lives. They have been best friends forever and enjoyed doing many things together. Leora is survived by James(Dawn) Perth Australia, Boyd (Shirlene) Clinton, Utah, Jeanne Brown, Janiel (Jerry) Swore, 20 Grandchildren, 57 Greatgrandchildren. Sisters Carol (Don) Eliason, Florence Bowman, Brother Grant (Eddie) Ipsen. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo, sons Dennis & his wife Laurie, Roy, sister Iris, and brother Foster.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25th at the Malad 2nd Ward Building at 12 noon. Friends may visit with the family at the 2nd Ward Building from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the Service. Burial will follow at Pleasantview Cementery. A big thank you to the Malad Long Term Care for their compassionate and loving care, to Kathy and Apral Ipsen for years of wonderful family home evenings and delicious meals and Lucinda Sweeten for helping us keep Mom in her home those extra years.
