Leland Ray Wilkins, 83, of Malad City, Idaho passed away from complications from a heart attack on Sunday, December 14, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born on August 6, 1931, in Mesa, AZ to the late Lowell Leland Wilkins and Nena Talbot Wilkins. He graduated from Delta High School and then went on to receive an Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Utah Trade Technical Institute. Leland was proud of the time he served as a Signal Master in the United States Navy from March of 1951 to March of 1955. After the Navy, he worked in a variety of capacities including Sales Management at Steiner Corporation and as a Switchman at Union Pacific Railroad.

Leland married his loving wife Mary Louise Wilkins, 76, on July 25, 1956, and together they had five children: David (Cathy) of Las Vegas, NV; Randy (Karen) of Johns Creek, GA; Michelle (Chris) of Alma, WI; Michael (Christine) of Salt Lake City, UT; and Alica (Don) of Malad City, Idaho. Leland also leaves behind his 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and his doting dog Bear.

He was active with the LDS Church in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Malad City, where he served as finance clerk as well as the first and second councilor to the Bishop. Leland’s biggest passion was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. No matter what the occasion or location, he made it a priority to be present and to cheer loudly for his family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 12 noon in the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. Malad, Idaho. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7-8 p.m. and on Monday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery.
