LaVar Clyde Bowen

LaVar Clyde Bowen was born May 19, 1921, in Malad, Idaho to Clyde and Laura Bowen. He was the second child in a family of nine children. He passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 in Logan, Utah, surrounded by his family.

He married Ruth Ellsworth on May 4, 1945, in Pocatello, Idaho. They would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this coming May. To this union were born three daughters, Dianne and Suzanne, twins, and Sandy.

LaVar lived his entire life in Malad, Idaho, except for a few months last year when he and Ruth moved to Logan to a retirement center. As soon as it was feasible they moved back to their home in Malad in November of 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, his daughters and their spouses, Dianne (Marvin) Pett, Suzanne (Don) Hartley, and Sandy (Dan) Tippetts. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren and their spouses, and 43 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, and one great great-granchild coming in September.

LaVar is survived by a sister, Helen Harris of Boise, Idaho, and another sister Kathalee Nelson of Bountiful, Utah, and his youngest brother, George (Margaret) Bowen of Fish Haven, Idaho. Predeceasing him are his brothers, Bob, Thayne, Ren Ray, & John, and sister Annie Woozley.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS 3rd Ward Chapel 400 N 200 W. Friends may visit with the family at the Horsley Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the aservice.
