Laurie Huntsman Malott

Laurie Huntsman Malott beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed peacefully, through the veil into the light and love of the Savior, Monday June 18, 2018. There was a joyful reunion with her father, sister and many other loved ones. Laurie was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on December 7, 1961 to Dean and Dorothy Carter Huntsman. She married Odie Ray Malott Jr. in the Bountiful LDS Temple in 1995.

Laurie was the youngest of seven children. As a premature baby she fought to live. She progressed through childhood and on to adulthood with much determination in spite of some physical limitations. She attended schools in Idaho: Shelley, Boise and graduated from Meridian High School. She worked in retail, day care and as a nurse’s aide. Before marriage, Laurie served two LDS missions; one with her parents at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and a second mission was to the Washington DC Temple, where she met her husband, Ray. They lived in Washington DC, several towns in Utah and eventually built a home in Downey, Idaho where they have lived for the past ten years. She and Ray served missions at the Bishop’s Storehouse and the ISU Institute. Laurie also served faithfully in many Church callings. She enjoyed doing counted cross-stitch, reading and traveling with her husband. One of the highlights in her travels was visiting the Holy Land.

To know Laurie was to love her. She spread smiles and love to everyone who crossed her path. She was preceded in death by her father, sister, Cherrie, her father and mother in-law, and grandparents, many aunts and uncles, and a niece and nephew. She is survived by her husband, her ninety-eight year old Mother, five siblings: Brenda, Dena (Tom), Craig (Debbie), Mark (Tracy), and Lei Lani (Ardel), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, Tim and Janet Hood (who were like family), and many dear friends. All who have meant a great deal to her.

The family extends a special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and other care givers from Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City, Utah for the excellent care received. Also a thank you to Encompass Home Health and Hospice for their excellent attention to her last few weeks: David, Tia and especially Mandy and all other staff. The family also wants to express their deep appreciation for Laurie’s sister, Brenda, who has spent the last several weeks with Laurie and Ray, sharing her nursing skills to help Laurie be more comfortable, and her love as they shared memories, words of comfort and gospel insight.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 23, 2018. The viewing will be from 10:30-11:45 a.m. that morning and the service at 12 noon. It will be held in the Downey, Idaho 1st Ward LDS building at 525 East 1st North. The burial will take place in the Downey Cemetery. Horsley Funeral Home of Malad, Idaho will be taking care of funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund or the Temple Construction Fund.
