Laurence G. Carter

Our beloved father, grandfather, and brother Laurence G. Carter, 93, passed away quietly on February 20, 1992 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born February 18,1899, in Park Valley, Utah, where he spent most of his life. He was the son of John M. and Roxey G. Carter.
At age 19 he had acquired 485 head of sheep which he used to support himself on a mission to the Southern States for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
He married his sweetheart Emma Kunzler in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1921. She died November 6, 1984.
Laurence operated a general merchandise store and service station in Park Valley for more than 40 years. He also engaged in the sheep and cattle business. He was active in community affairs and was a member of the Box Elder County School Board for ten years. He was secretary treasurer of the Box Elder County Soil Conservation District and wrote their newsletter for ten years, winning awards each year. He was a director of the Bookmobile and the library board in Box Elder County. He served as a director of the Federal Land Bank Board for two terms.
Laurence loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and gave valiant service in many positions. Among those were first counselor in the bishopric for seven years, High Priest group leader under three bishops, Gospel Doctrine teacher and Stake Sunday School board member.
He and his beloved companion served in the Logan Temple and Ogden Temple for many years.
His favorite hobbies were fishing, cooking, playing the harmonica, and his grandchildren, whom he adored.
Laurence loved people and was known for his compassionate, caring personality. He has always been a friend to the homeless and down trodden, often providing work for such people. He was widely loved for his honesty, integrity, his fervent testimony and his love of the Gospel.
He is survived by two sons and four daughters: G. Lael (Rowena) Carter; Kay L. (Clarence) Carter; Betty Jo (Hamer) Reiser; Luana (Grant) Heaton, all of Salt Lake City; Marvell (Delbert) Hurschi, Ogden, Utah; and Emma Louise (Joe) Davis, Samaria, Idaho; a niece Dixie (Reed) Conger, of Hyrum, Utah, who was raised as a daughter; and two brothers and one sister, Kenneth G. Carter and Vera C. James, Logan, Utah; and Francis Marley Carter, Burley, Idaho. He has 25 grandchildren and 84 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 25 at the Park Valley Ward Chapel. Interment was at the Park Valley Cemetery.
