LaRue Lowry Smith

Arimo….LaRue Lowry Smith, 92, lifetime area resident and wife of the late T.J. Smith, passed away on Wednesday November 18, 2009. She was born on April 14, 1917 in McCammon, Idaho, a daughter of Jesse William and Eliza Stutznegger Lowry. LaRue attended school in McCammon and graduated Valedictorian of McCammon High School. After graduation, she moved to Montpelier to work. During that time, she attended a dance in Arimo, where she met Thomas Jenkins (T.J.) Smith. They were married on June 7, 1939, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and made their home in Arimo. Tom farmed and ranched for many years and La
Rue was homemaker to their family. They were blessed with four sons. Tom passed away Oct. 28, 1985. LaRue was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she had served in many callings through the years, including Primary President and Relief Society President. She also served an LDS mission to the Washington – Seattle mission. She was a member of D.U.P. (Daughters of the Utah Pioneers) and had also volunteered as an aide to the McCammon elementary school. LaRue enjoyed quilting, all kinds of handwork, and was an excellent seamstress. She loved to read and found great joy in being with her family. She is survived by her four sons; Kirk (Gayle) Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; Lane (Mabel) Smith of Firth, Idaho; Craig (Sandra) Smith of Arimo; Evan (Barbara) Smith of Inkom. 17 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. 1 daughter in law; Ranae Smith (Kirk); a granddaughter; Sharla Smith (daughter of Kirk and Ranae). Funeral services will be held on Monday November 23, 2009 at 12 noon in the Arimo LDS Stake Chapel. Friends may visit with the Smith family on Sunday evening from 5-7 pm at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral home 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo and on Monday at the Arimo church prior to services from 10:30-11:45 am.
