LaRue Camp Moss Jones

Devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, LaRue Camp Moss Jones passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the home of her son, Jedd Jones, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. LaRue was born in her childhood home, to loving parents, Alvin Morse and Margaret (Pierce) Camp in St. John, Idaho on December 9, 1925. She was raised and educated in St. John and Malad, and graduated from Malad High School with honors, in 1944.

After high school, she stayed in Malad working as a clerk at the R.V. Daniel’s Drug Store and later at Crowther’s Mill. She married Grant Moss in 1945 and gave birth to her first child 1946. After returning from the service, Grant died in a tragic accident which left LaRue a widow. Ever resilient, she continued to support her daughter until she married her eternal companion, Ray Wesley Jones, in 1954. Ray and LaRue moved to Idaho Falls, where they raised their family, and after retirement and mission moved to Utah, eventually settling in North Ogden.

LaRue loved to garden, a skill she learned from her father, and was known for being kind, patient, tolerant, and fair. She was an avid reader and quilter and expressed her creativity through poetry and painting. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LaRue had a strong testimony of her Savior and spent much her time serving in various callings. She and Ray served missions in Leeds, England and inner-city Ogden. LaRue was the biggest fan of her children and grandchildren and was often seen watching their activities from the stands at various sports

She is survived by her six children; Marilyn Moss Donehey of Crystal Lake, Illinois; Jerilyn (Terry) Griffith of Houston, Texas; Wes (Cindy) Jones of Eagle, Idaho; Jedd (Tanea) Jones of Cottonwood Heights, Utah; Zane (Natalie) Jones of Parker, Colorado; Tim (Jennifer) Jones of Cowley, Wyoming; 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and her sister Melba Hedstrom of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her sisters Ann Christopherson, Neith Sanders, and Carma Morgan; her brothers William (Pete) Camp and Marion Camp.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 1 p.m. in the Willow Creek 7th Ward, 2115 E. Creek Rd. in Sandy, Utah. Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 11:30-12:30 at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Her family will miss her dearly but her Christ-like legacy will continue. The family would like to express their gratitude to her many caregivers, including, Dr. David Miner, Kent Montgomery, the Intermountain Healthcare Hospice team, and especially Brian Simmons, her nurse who came twice a week for almost a full year.
