Larry Jack “Jetrod” Etherington

Larry Jack Etherington 72, husband of Shanna Etherington returned to the good Lord on Saturday, May 25, 2013, due to a 4-wheeler accident, doing what he loved. Our husband, dad, pa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many was born February 17, 1941 in Ogden, Utah to Jack A. Etherington and Maurine Tree Etherington. He was the oldest of four boys. He attended Central Middle School and graduated from Ogden High School.
He married Shanna Ruth Olsen, August 27, 1962 at the Ivy House in Ogden. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was serving in the Sunday School Presidency. He took out his endowments in the Logan LDS temple.
He had been employed as a supervisor in the maintenance department at Nucor Steel, he retired in 2007. He was elected as Oneida County Commissioner in 2009. At the time of his death, he was a committee chairman for the Boy Scouts of America and he was also serving on the school board. His hobbies were working on the farm, spending time with his many animals and pretty much anything that had to do with the great outdoors. He loves this great country that we live in and showed his deep love and respect every chance he could. He is survived by his widow of Malad, four children, Russell Jack Etherington, Roy, Utah; Lisa Ann (Matt) Perkins, Hooper, Utah; Paul Irvin Etherington, Severn, Maryland; Annette Maurine (Fred) Archuleta, Roy, Utah. Grandchildren, Casey (Chandelle) Perkins, Tiffany (Mike) Ellertson, Arika (Travis) Higley, Dillon Pilcher, Cooper Perkins, Alexis Archuleta and Bronson Archuleta. Eight great grandchildren, Jace, Cierra, Madison, Bode and Sage Perkins, Addison Ellertson, Stettson Higley and one great granddaughter that pa gets to hold before we do. Three brothers, Craig (Diane) Etherington, Salt Lake City, Utah; Scott Etherington, Spokane, Washington; Randy (Liane) Etherington, Perry, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Maurine Etherington and one great grandson, Kasen Ellertson. Come celebrate his life at a viewing on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W 300 N in Malad, Idaho from 6-8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Malad LDS Stake Chapel 1100 W 1250 N at 12:00 p.m. with Bishop Dave Jensen officiating. Interment will follow at the Pleasantview Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America. Thank you to family and friends for your love and support. ATV accident claims life of community leader
An accident Thursday evening claimed the life of a well-liked community leader, Larry Etherington.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and Oneida Ambulance were dispatched to 5400 West, south of Highway 38 (Pocatello Valley Road), for a report of an ATV accident. The investigation report indicates that Larry Etherington was traveling south when he applied the brakes on his ATV and made a hard right turn. He was ejected and the ATV came to rest in the barrow pit. It is unknown why Larry applied the brakes or turned to the right. The ATV was in good working order. He sustained a head injury.
The Oneida Sheriff’s Office initiated LifeFlight, and Mr. Etherington was transported to Oneida County Hospital by Oneida Ambulance EMTs, and he was immediately transported to Portneuf Medical Center.
He passed away Saturday, May 25. At the time of his death, Larry Etherington served on the Oneida School District Board of Trustees. He also served a term as Oneida County Commissioner from 2010 until 2012.
