LaMar Barnes

LaMar H. Barnes, 88, Downey, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015, at his home, surrounded by family. LaMar was born September 25, 1926, in Downey, Idaho. He was the third child and first son of Warren Ogden and Lettie Ilean Henderson Barnes. He married Lila Mae Lewis on June 18, 1947, in Malad, Idaho. The marriage was solemnized April 21, 1964 in the Logan Utah Temple. They were married 56 years and during those years had 5 children. As a youth he spent his time helping on the family farm while his dad delivered mail. He began with feeding the calves, then learning to milk and moved on to the planting, haying, and harvesting as he grew older. He spent the summer helping in the beet fields. He became the substitute rural letter carrier for his father. He held that position some 23 years and then became the regular carrier. He was with the US Postal Service for 37 years. LaMar attended elementary school in Cambridge. He participated in football, basketball, and boxing. He graduated in 1944 from Downey High School. Because of a back injury the military refused to take him into the service and he remained on the farm, working with his brother. LaMar served in the Downey community by serving on the Marsh Valley Cemetery Board, the Marsh Valley Portneuf Canal Board, and also held several positions in the Downey LDS Ward. He enjoyed going to dances, hunting, breaking and training horses. He enjoyed watching his sons play basketball, football, wrestling, and spending time teaching grandkids how to work. He is survived by daughters Ronda, Trudy, sons Tom, Rory, and Chad, and their spouses, 10 grand -children, 18 great- grand- children, with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, his parents, sisters Glenys, Myrtle, and brother DeVere. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 12, at 12:00 noon in the Downey LDS Chapel. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:30-11:45 am prior to the service. Interment will be in the Cambridge Cemetery. A special thanks to Encompass Home Health and Hospice staff and Dr. Travis Nielsen for their help during this difficult time. A very special thank you is given to daughter-in-law Jane Barnes for her selfless love and care she provided Dad. Without her 24/7 help, we would have been lost.
