Kent Dee Gilbert

Kent Dee Gilbert, age 60, passed away in Downey, Idaho on May 12, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kent was born on July 16, 1957, to Colette & Ervin Gilbert in Downey, Idaho. Kent grew up and spent most of his life on the family farm in Virginia, Idaho. In 2011 he moved to Crystal Springs group home near McCammon, Idaho. After the facility closed in 2016, Kent moved to Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Downey, Idaho where he spent the remainder of his life. Kent attended elementary school in Downey and Marsh Valley junior and senior high in Arimo, Idaho. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He competed in the Special Olympics locally. He also traveled to Central Michigan University to compete in the international Special Olympics. It was his love of sports that he became an avid fan of the Marsh Valley Eagles. He attended as many Marsh Valley sports and other events as possible. He was always cheering and encouraging the players to do their best. Kent loved and supported the Bannock county fair exhibiting many items. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and visiting with neighbors. He was also an active participant in the scouting program. He was a lover of animals especially his two cats, Angel & Hoppy. He was a kind and loving person and always had a great smile. Kent is survived by his parents, Colette and Ervin Gilbert, three siblings, Douglas Wayne Gilbert (Dianne) of Sun City West, AZ, Scott Jay Gilbert (Lisa) of Johnstown, PA, and Carol Jean Gilbert of Chubbuck, ID, sister in law Paula Gilbert (Sun City West, AZ) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother, Ellis Gilbert. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 18, 2018, at 11 am at Virginia Ward Chapel, Virginia Idaho with a viewing preceding funeral services from 9:30-10:30 am. A viewing will also be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018, from 7-8 pm at the Horsley Marsh Valley Funeral Home in Arimo, ID.
