Katherine Williams

Our gentle, kind and quiet mother, Katherine Williams, 65, passed away December 11, 2017 in Malad City, Idaho.

Katherine was born in San Francisco, California on August 3, 1952 to Edward Gerald and Edith Slatter Williams. After the untimely death of her Father in 1954, her mother moved the family home to Malad two years later; in order to raise the children in a supportive small town environment with deep Welsh pioneer family roots. Katherine’s mother passed away in 1968. Katherine graduated from Malad High School in 1970 and attended Rick’s College in Rexburg. After college, she worked for Farmers Insurance Company in Pocatello.

Katherine married Jon Philip Williams on New Year’s Eve in 1977. They were married for nine years and had three wonderful sons. After their divorce, Jon and Katherine remained friends.

Katherine was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She cherished her family above all else and made their well-being and happiness her top priority. She had a special place in her heart for her seven grandchildren and loved to babysit and support them in their sports and activities. Katherine worked as a cashier for KJ’s (Kwik Stop) in Malad for thirty years. She loved her job and the many friendships she had with customers, fellow employees and the owners. Katherine prided herself on doing a great job and always loved knowing what was going on in Malad. The regular customers would stop by daily to give her updates. All of the customers buying lottery tickets told her they would share their Powerball jackpot winnings with her, but sadly there were never any big winners.

Besides family, work and her many friendships in Malad, she took great pride in her yard. She always wanted her grass and plants to look fabulous for everyone passing by her home.

Katherine was a member of the LDS church.

Katherine was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be truly missed. She is survived by her children: Edward Russell (Jennifer) Williams, Pocatello, ID, Steven Mark Williams, Seattle, WA, and Harley Michael (Holli) Williams, Nibley, UT; brother: Sidney (Laura) Williams; nieces: Sandy Facer, Paula (Joe) Dare and Heather (Peter) Somerville; nephew: Jerry (Becky) Williams; grandchildren: Drake, Natalie, Hunter, Savannah, Carter, Mason and Kendyl. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Gerald; and sister-in-law: Kay Dean Williams.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 14 at 12 noon in the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery.
