Joseph Alden Camp

Joseph Alden Camp, 91 – With dignity and peace, surrounded by loving family,
our father left the confines of his earthly body and leapt into the arms of his bride on November 11, 2011 in Kanab, UT. Born on September 19, 1920, in Pleasantview, ID,
to Williams Peter Camp Jr. and Esther Violet Camp. As a young man his passions
included basketball, fly fishing, writing, and he especially loved cars. As an adult, with equal fervor and dedication, these hobbies were exchanged for a wife and family. He married his sweetheart, Colleen Petersen, on October 25, 1946, in the Idaho Falls Temple, and together they raised nine children. His life was one dedicated to service – service to his God, his family, his community, and his country. As a member of the Lion’s Club in
Idaho, Kearns, UT and Taylorsville, UT, he served for many years chairing fundraisers, Easter egg hunts, coat drives and all things charitable. He received an honorary discharge from the Armed Services (Army Air Force) after he served his country faithfully while stationed in England and later France, as Supply Sargent during WWII. He is still known today as the “Saver of many soles” as he, along with the help of several of his children,
was the proprietor of Camp Shoe Repair in Taylorsville, UT for many years.
He was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he continued his pattern of service to his community and God as Bishop in Kearns, UT. He was a 100% home teacher, serving at one time or another with each of his five sons for a companion – his legacy of flannel board stories will live on forever. In
1987, he and his wife of over 60 years, were called to serve a mission for the LDS church, in Nauvoo, Il. They were faithful and served diligently in this endeavor and he spoke of this experience and the events therein as ‘some of the greatest and proudest of their lives’.

Alden is survived by his loving children: Jerry (Nancy) Camp, Taylorsville,
UT; Aldene (Bruce) Judd, Kanab, UT; J.D. Camp, SLC, UT; Lynette Barlow (Brad
McNeil), St. George, UT; Blair (Paula) Camp, Murray, UT; Marilee (Brad)
Cordery, West Jordan, UT; Carla Camp – wife of Jim R. Camp (deceased) of
Hazen, ND; Ron Camp, Kanab, UT; and Alice (John) Nuckols, Centerville, UT,
His legacy boasts of 30 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Colleen, his son Jim, son-in-law Brad Barlow, his parents,
5 brothers and 2 sisters.
