John W. Allen dies at Tremonton

John W. Allen, 70, of Riverside, died Tuesday, July 17, 1979 at the Tremonton Hospital of a lingering illness.

Mr. Allen was born October 14, 1908 in Portage to Joseph and Elizabeth Ann Naylor Allen.
He married Grace Udy March 26, 1943 in the Logan LDS Temple and they made their home in Riverside. He worked as a warehouseman for the George A. Lowe Co. in Ogden and at the U&I Sugar Co. in Garland. Prior to retirement due to health, he was a priest in the Belmont LDS Ward and had served a mission to the Texas Louisanna Mission. He has also served as Ward Clerk in Riverside and Belmont Wards, Seventies Quorum Secretary in the Bear River Stake and also Sunday School teacher and Ward magazine director. He was presently serving as a home teacher.
Surviving are his wife of Riverside; sons, John ElRay Allen, Malad; Lawrence J. Allen, Mantua, Utah; Joseph J. Allen of Riverside, and daughter, Mrs. Jerry Pat Checketts, Brigham; eleven grandchildren.
Also surviving are five brothers, and three sisters, Joseph C. Allen, Salt Lake City; Golden L. Allen, Mrs. Newell Hazel Udy, Centerville; K. Leon Allen, Roy; Ralph L. Allen, Mrs. Ray Edna Tippittes, Ogden; Ellis L. Allen, Portage; and Mrs. Eugene Faye Brigham, Clinton.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 20th at the Belmont LDS Ward in the west building with Bishop R. Wynn Zundel officiating. Funeral arrangements were handled by Rogers Mortuary in Tremonton. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.
