Funeral services Tuesday for John T. Ashton, 75

Funeral services were conducted at Benson Funeral Home Tuesday for John T. Ashton, age 75, who died Saturday (June 28, 1968) at a Pocatello hospital after a brief illness.

Bishop Cordell Williams conducted the services, Family prayer was offered by Stillman Harris; the invocation, by LaMar Thomas, and the benediction by Warren J, Ashton. Speakers were Fred Coxey, who gave a life sketch, Bishop Williams, and Ora John, Vocal duets were presented by Marjorie Vaughan and Sharon Moon, accompanied by Cynthia Moon, and Maisie Williams and Vereen John, accompanied by Christine Williams, Foster Ipsen, accompanied by Janiel Brown, sang a solo. Organ music was played by Sharon Moon.

At the Portage Cemetery, Jonah Evans offered the dedicatory prayer. Casket bearers were Craig Day, Ron Miller, Alan Ashton, Steve Ashton, Michael Martin and Steven Ashton. Flowers were arranged by members of Cherry Creek LDS Ward Relief Society.

Services were directed by Benson Funeral Home, Malad, and Henderson Funeral Home, Pocatello.

Mr. Ashton was born at Portage April 16, 1893 to Hyrum and Emma Elias Ashton. He married Mary Jones at Malad on July 12, 1916; they were divorced. He married Pearl Bateman Dec. 31, 1948 and they separated. He was a former resident of Ogden and Salt Lake City and moved to Pocatello in 1936. He worked as a laborer. He was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by six sons and daughters, 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Warren, Malad; Joe, Pocatello; Harvey, Mrs. Merle McClane, Mrs. Della Doxey, Mrs. Minnie John, all of Ogden; Mrs. Mary Jones, Malad.
