John Reed Criddle

Downey….John Reed Criddle, 88, of Downey, husband of the late Venna Dewey Criddle, passed away peacefully at his home on June 12, 2009, with his family by his side. Reed was born November 11, 1920 in Downey, Idaho, a son of John Edwin and Cloah Gunter Criddle. He graduated from Downey High School, and later attended Utah State University. On August 14, 1942, Reed married his school sweetheart and love of his life, Venna Dewey, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in New Mexico during WWII, while Reed was serving in the U.S. Army. Following the war, they returned to Downey and spent 59 years together. Venna passed away in 2001. Through his life, Reed was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he serve faithfully in several callings. He loved to fish and hunt, and had enjoyed the outdoors. He worked many years on the family farm and also was employed with the Union Pacific R.R. Reed spent most of his life on the farm and loved everything about it; the tractors, horses, cows and working the land. He is survived by 2 sons; Reo (Darlene) Criddle of Downey; Lyle (Deena, deceased) Criddle also of Downey. 2 sisters; Hazel Thomas of Swan Lake and Maurine Henderson of Salt Lake City, Utah. several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son; John Clark Criddle. a daughter Kayleen Willie. 1 brother and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 15, 2009 at 12 noon in the Downey LDS 1st Ward Chapel, Bishop Rex Nielsen, officiating. Friends may visit with the Criddle family , this evening from 6-8 pm at the Downey church and on Monday prior to the service from 10:30-11:30 am. Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetery.
