John P. Illum

John P, Illum, 78, retired Oneida county farmer, died late Wednesday night at the Oneida Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28 [1957], at the First ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Howard Neal officiating. Friends may call at the family home, 238 Samaria Lane Sunday evening and Monday until time of services. Interment will be in the Malad City Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.
Mr. Ilium was born in Denmark, June 23, 1878, a son of Peter Hansen Ilium and Betty Jensen Illum. He came to the United States at the age of seven, living first at Ogden, Utah. He attended school at Ogden and Plain City; also, Brigham Young College at Logan and the University of Utah. On May 2, 1906, he married Elizabeth Palmer in the Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Illum purchased a farm at Pleasant View and lived there 35 years, moving to Malad in 1943. He and Mrs. Illum have resided here since.
An active member of the LDS Church, Mr. Illum belonged to the Malad First ward and was a High Priest. He served a mission in the Southern States from May 1, 1899, to 1901 and with his wife served a mission to the North Central States Mission on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, Montana, in 1925-;27. Mr. Illum was a past president of the Malad Stake M.I.A. Board
Survivors are his widow, Malad; one daughter, Mrs. Burtrum (Marie) Wight, Pleasantview; one son, LaMar Illum, Salt Lake City; four grandchildren, two half-brothers and 10 half-sisters.
