John H. Asay, 87, dies Aug. 13, 1977, funeral Tues.

John Hilbert Asay, age 87, of Malad City, died, Saturday, Aug. 13, 1977 in the Oneida County Hospital of a long illness.

He was born April 9, 1890 at Thatcher, Arizona, a son of William Pedrick and Hildegarde Chlarson Asay.

He married Maggie Eliza Allred April 17, 1913 in Thatcher, Ariz.; she died May 12, 1955. He married Zina Hoopes Reay on April 4, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah; she died July 18, 1964.

He received his education in the Thatcher, Ariz. Schools. He came to Malad City in 1949 where he was engaged in farming with his sons. He was a member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include two sons and two daughters: Delmar Asay and William Kent Asay, both of Malad City; Mrs. Aleen Grace Combs, Ukiah, Calif.; Mrs. Lamar Hoopes, Caulfield, Missouri.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Audrey Judd, Phoenix, Ariz.; and five half-sisters: Mrs. Annie Olson, Safford, Ariz., Mrs. Beatrice West, Ogden; Mrs. Ethel Shely, Coquille, Oregon; Mrs. Mabel Lamoroux, Mesa, Ariz., and Mrs. Annie Casper, Pima, Ariz.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at 12 noon in the Benson Funeral Home with Bishop Gene Edwards officiating.

Invocation was offered by Elmer Illum, and Mike Asay delivered the obituary.

Speaker was Bishop James Madson.

Melanie Reed played prelude and postlude music, and accompanied. Helen E. Jones sang a vocal selection.

Benediction was offered by Dale Harrison.

Concluding rites and burial will be held at Thatcher, Arizona, cemetery.

Additional funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Caldwell Funeral Home in Safford, Ariz.
