John H. Westergard Jr.

Services for John H. Westergard Jr., 64, 475 Tendoy, retired sales manager for Westergard Mayflower Moving and Storage Co. of Idaho Falls, will take place 1 p.m. Saturday at the LDS 24th Ward Chapel, with Bishop Grant Collard officiating.
Mr. Westergard died Wednesday afternoon after his car plunged off U.S. 26 east of Ririe.
He worked for 40 years in transportation. He began his career working for his uncle, the late James C. Westergard, founder of Westergard Mayflower Moving and Storage Co. He was manager of Orange Transportation Co. for 22 years and salesman for P.I.E. for six years prior to returning to Westergard Moving and Storage. He retired in 1973.
Mr. Westergard has served as exalted ruler of the Idaho Falls BPOE Elks Lodge and was a charter member of the Idaho Falls Exchange Club. He is past commander of Bonneville Post 56 of the American Legion and former Chef de Gare of the 40 et 8.
He has been active in the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, Community Chest, War Bonnet Roundup and other civic organizations and special projects committees.
Born Nov. 29, 1910, at Ogden, Utah, he was the son of John H. Westergard Sr. and Mary Williams Westergard. The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was graduated from West High School.
He married Alta Wakeman Feb. 23, 1935 at Idaho Falls.
During World War II he served as a captain in the Idaho Volunteer Reserves until he left for a two-year tour of duty with the 558th Army Engineers.
He was a member of the LDS Church.
Survivors include his wife of Idaho Falls; one son, Jack Westergard of Idaho Falls; two brothers, James Oliver Westergard of Los Angeles, Calif, and Dale W. Westergard of Bountiful, Utah; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Wood Funeral Home and Saturday at the Church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery where military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 56.
