JOHN G. BENNETT IS CALLED BY DEATH – He was a Resident of Malad Valley For The Past Thirty Years

J. G. Bennett, 77, for thirty years a resident of this city, was called to rest Monday evening, July 29, 1935 at his home in Malad following an illness of some duration. Mr. Bennett was brought home on July 24th from Ogden where he had been receiving treatment at the Dee Hospital for about ten days.

John George Bennett was born in Beaufort South Wales, May 14, 1858. He was the son of David George and Sarah Ann Grenwood Bennett who joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Wales in 1850. He was baptized into the church by his father on his eighth birthday.

He married Elizabeth Ann Laws in the city of Bishop Auckland, England on the 10th of June 1882. In 1883 both Mr. and Mrs. Bennett crossed the Atlantic Ocean to America, Mr. Bennett coming two months ahead of his wife as they had no means and had to abide the time to get to Utah. Two months later Mrs. Bennett with her four months old babe joined her husband in Salt Lake City, where they resided for two years. Since that time they have resided in other Utah and Idaho towns.

At the time of his death, Mr. Bennett held the office of a High Priest in the L. D. S. Church. He has been an active church worker all his life.

For four years Mr. Bennett held the office of Justice of the Peace in Malad. While residing in Box Elder County, Utah, he was Justice of the Peace there for four years and was also Deputy Assessor.

Because of his jovial personality and friendly nature, he gained a host of friends in Malad who mourn his loss greatly.

Surviving Mr. Bennett are his widow and nine of their twelve children: John G. Bennett of San Francisco, California; Nephi A. Leonard and Glenn Bennett and Mrs. Lyman Wight of Malad; Lester of Brigham, J. D. of Holbrook, Idaho; Mrs. John C. Thomas of Tremonton, Utah and Mrs. James Kilfoyle of Ogden, Utah.
