John Benjamin Allen

John B. Allen, 71, Portage, died Sunday night, 24 March 1957 at his home of a heart ailment.
Mr. Allen was a high priest in the LDS Portage ward and served a two-year mission to the Central States. He was a foreman on a sheep ranch.
He was born June 3, 1885, in Portage, a son of Joseph and Mary Jane Jones Allen. He was reared and educated in Portage and married Martha Louise Gibbs on Dec 1, 1916, in the LDS Salt Lake Temple.
Surviving are his widow, Portage; one son and three daughters: Mrs. Eloise Benson and I. Jay Allen, Los Angeles; Mrs. Mary Price and Mrs. Zona Hancey, Ogden; six grandchildren, one brother and three
sisters, Joseph D. Allen and Mrs. Pearl McCrary, Portage; Mrs. Rachel Gurr, Ogden; Mrs. Rose Elkins, Huntington Park, Calif.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Portage LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Walter E. Gibbs officiating. J. Edw. Gibbs offered the prayer at the home. At the chapel Azella Gibbs played the prelude and postlude; Golden Allen offered the invocation; J. Hyrum Gibbs, benediction. Musical numbers were furnished by the Ward Brothers, LaVell and Barry Parkinson. Speakers were W. D. Beers, Raymond Guyman, President Thos. W. Richards, DeVere Harris and Bishop Gibbs. Glen Masey offered the dedicatory prayer. Casket bearers were Gibbs Allen, Farrell McCrary, Golden Gibbs, William L. Gibbs, Ralph Gibbs, Ellis Allen.

Former counselor in Portage LDS Ward Bishopric. High priest at time of death. Sheep foreman. Married Martha Louise Gibbs Dec. 1, 1916 in Salt Lake LDS Temple. Surviving widow, son, daughters Mrs. Eloise Benson, I. Jay both Los Angeles; Mrs. Mary Price, Mrs. Zona Hancey, Ogden; six grandchildren, a brother and three sisters. Funeral Wednesday at 1 p.m. In Portage LDS Ward Chapel. Friends call family home Tuesday evening, Wednesday until service time. Burial in Portage Cemetery by Benson Funeral Home, Malad, Idaho, in charge.
