John Alma “Jay” Wight

John Alma “Jay” Wight, passed away peacefully at the Oneida County Hospital in Malad, ID on September 8th, 2018 after extended illnesses.

Jay was born on April 19th, 1941 in Malad, ID to Bertund & Marie Wight. He was the oldest of four children, and a lifelong resident of Pleasantview. He grew up working on the family farm and joined the Army after graduating from Malad High School in 1959. At the end of his military service, he started his own hay hauling business, which led to a lifelong career of driving truck for various companies in Southern Idaho and Northern Utah. On December 17th, 1976, he married his sweetheart Linda Farley, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple.

Upon his retirement in 2006, Jay enjoyed spending time with his family, serving in the American Legion, doing family history work and visiting with his friends. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings.

Jay is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Linda, two sisters; Betty & Nelda of Malad, ID and his four children; Christopher (Tiffany) of Smithfield, UT, Kalyn of Logan, UT, Joel (Melissa) of Malad, ID, and Peter (Sunnie) of Herriman, UT. He was also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren (Nathan, Anna, Jaden, Adilee & Quentin). He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert & Marie, and his sister, Dorothy Webb.

A viewing will be held on the evening September 13th, 2018 at the Malad 2nd Ward building (20 S. 100 W.) from 7:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will also be held at the Malad 2nd Ward building at 11:00 AM on September 14th, 2018, with a viewing prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Pleasantview Cemetery.
