Jerry H. Jones passed away in Ogden, Utah, on August 10, 2015. He was born on June 24, 1930 in Malad to Barney T. and Amelia Hansen Jones. He was raised on the family farm. That’s where he learned to love raising sheep. He told stories of going on sheep drives from Wyoming down into the Nevada desert, where he earned the nickname “Basco”. Jerry graduated from Malad High School in 1948, and then attended Graceland College in LeMoine, Iowa from 1948 to 1950, receiving a Junior Seminary Certificate of Graduation. After returning to Malad after graduation, Jerry started farming and working part-time jobs. He started working part-time for the postal service in 1966, later becoming full-time. He was a dedicated postal worker for 30 years. After retiring from the postal service, Jerry became a full-time farmer until just a few weeks before his death. On November 9, 1957, Jerry married Sandra Jean Pierce in Malad. They made their home in Malad, and in 1966 they bought their ranch, which became his home for the rest of his life. They were blessed with two sons, Derk and Todd, and the family worked side-by-side on the family farm where they made many wonderful memories. Jerry was an avid bowler. He loved fishing and hunting with his friends and family. He especially loved coffee hour, telling b.s. stories and cussing Todd. He was active in the community, being a member of the Oneida County Fair Board and Racing Commission and a member of the Deep Creek Water Board. He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving as past Worthy President, and was also a member of the Oneida Wool Pool. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his only sister, Theda; his loving wife, Sandra and their son, Derk. He is survived by his son, B. Todd Jones. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14 in the Horsley Funeral Home. Viewings will be held on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday morning prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 at Horsley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery following the services.
