Jennie Goddard Bailey

Jennie Goddard Bailey, 87, passed away March 26, 2003 due to a lingering illness and a broken heart after the loss of her three sons.

She was born December 29, 1915, the 12th of 13 children in Malad, ID to Martin and Ruth Ann Thomas Goddard. She married Chester Roderick Bailey of Malad on July 23, 1934. Together they raised a family of six children and leave a posterity of 94. Chet passed away February 23, 1980.

Jennie has always worked in the restaurant business in the Magna area at the Joker for six years, then in 1957 she leased and managed the Hi-Way Café, and for several years after she managed the Utah Copper Club House. She was well known as an excellent cook and made the best soup and pies in town. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her kids until her health began to fail. She was a member of the LDS Church and life long member of the VFW Post 7398 Ladies Auxiliary.

Jennie is survived by one sister, June Thomson of Odessa, TX; one son, Bill Bailey; two daughters, Sherrie (Paul) Christison and Joan (Dick) Pearce; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bailey; 27 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a lot of special nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chet; two infant babies, Fred and Jannice; three sons, Gene, David and Johnny; grandson, David Brent, Jr.; son-in-law, Buck Christison; five brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services were held March 31, 2003 at the Magna East Stake Center. Interment was in the Valley View Memorial Park.
