Jennie Evans Alder, 90, lifelong resident of Malad passed away on April 1, 2004 in the Oneida County Long Term Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past three and one-half years.

Jennie was born July 29, 1913, in Malad, Idaho, a daughter of Evan J. and Clara Bolingbroke Evans. The family spent summers on the ranch above Devil’s Creek and winters in Malad. She was educated in Malad, and was a graduate of Malad High School. Following high school, she attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, graduating in business. She then was employed at the Malad Lumber Yard for several years, and the Oneida County Courthouse for a short time.

On November 18, 1945 Jennie married Lynn Campbell Alder in Malad. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah temple. Lynn passed away July 2, 1987. Following their marriage, they lived on the family ranch south of Malad.

It was Jennie’s job to feed and care for the men who came to help on the ranch. She always had a hot meal ready for anyone who came to work or visit. She was known for always having delicious homemade cookies on h and. She loved to grow flowers and vegetables and spent many hours canning fruit and vegetables from her garden.

Jennie was a member of the LDS Church and attended church in the Second Ward building her whole life. She was a faithful visiting teacher and served in the Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School as a secretary. She kept meticulous record, and could be depended on to do whatever she was asked. She was a member of the Home Culture Club and the Gala Bridge Club and enjoyed her associations there. She was kind and friendly to all she met.

Jennie was devoted to her family. Her only ambition was to be a good wife, mother and grandmother. She loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren spend time with her; and looked forward to their visits. She was the anchor to Malad for the Evans family, where many nieces and nephews spent holidays and summers in her home.
