Jeanne Lavonne Peden

Malad….Jeanne Lavonne Peden, 85, longtime Malad resident, passed away peacefully Thursday evening October 30, 2008, surrounded by members of her family. She was born September 12, 1923, in Lakewood, Ohio, the daughter of Viola Louise and Willard Reuben Peden.. She was the youngest of three children, a sister of Willard M. and H. Vinton. Jeanne grew up in Parma, Ohio, graduating in 1941 from Parma Schaaf High School. Her family loved music, poetry, membership in the Presbyterian Church and community service. Jeanne started her secretarial career while still in high school, working for a tool manufacturing company. She then went to work in the purchasing dept, for Chevrolet, a job she held for 10 years. Her beloved mother passed away when Jeanne was only 25. she was a loving daughter to her father, caring for him and their home until he died 8 years later. While working at Chevrolet, she enjoyed golf and bowling with her friends and was always a Cleveland Indians baseball fan In 1960 she moved to Malad to live near her brother H.V. Peden and his family. she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Ren’s Chevrolet and as a bookkeeper for the Malad Bowl until she retired. Jeanne has always enjoyed handwork and has kept her nieces and their families well supplied with beautiful items. she loved Christmas and the July 4th Parades when all her nieces and their families would gather to share these holidays with her. Mary and H.V.’s family of six girls became her family in so many ways. She loved traveling with them, attending graduations, baby blessings and weddings, playing cards and games and serving them her brownies and Christmas cookies. Jeanne was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Bridge Club. she loved reading, television and attending the Presbyterian Church. Jeanne will be greatly missed by Mary, her sister in law and her nieces and their children. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2008, at 12 noon in the Horsley Funeral Home 132 W. 300 N. in Malad. Friends may visit with Jeanne’s family on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm and on Monday prior to services from 10:30-11:30 am. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery.
