Jean Horsley Smith

Jean Horsley Smith, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was surrounded by family as she returned peacefully to our Heavenly Father and to be with her eternal companion on April 20, 2011.

She was born June 25, 1921 in Salt Lake City to Ernest Horsley and Agnes Amelia Williamson. She grew up in Malad Idaho, attended BYU and then served a mission in the New England States. She married Arthur Vernon Smith from Richmond Utah in the Logan Temple on June 17, 1943.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served her second mission with her husband, Vern, in the Salt Lake City Utah Mission, and her third mission with him in Atlanta, Georgia. She also served as a Salt Lake Temple Worker.

She is survived by four children, son A. Vernon (Toshiko) Smith Jr., West Jordan; son R. Craig Smith, Pahrump, Nevada; daughter Brenda (Robert) Brady, Farmington, Utah; son Gordon D. (Rose) Smith, Layton; 18 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Also her sister Bernice (Lowell) Hicks; and brother Raymond (Helen) Horsley; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:00a.m. at the Canyon Rim Second Ward Chapel, 3100 East 3000 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Family and friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30a.m. – 10:45a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Graveside services will be held at the Richmond Utah City Cemetery at approximately 3:30p.m.. Special thanks to Shannon and Robin and all the staff at Harmony Hospice for their years of selfless and compassionate care of our mother.
