Janet Stallings Jensen

Janet Stallings Jensen, 82, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018, in Pocatello, Idaho.

She was born on October 1, 1935, in Ogden, Utah, to James Ritter Stallings and Virginia McEntire.  She grew up on the family farm in Eden, Utah, where she attended the Eden two-room school, and later finished her Elementary and Junior High years in Huntsville, Utah.

Janet graduated from Weber High School.  She also graduated from Weber State College and Utah State University with a degree in Elementary Education and an Elementary Library Certificate.  She taught Fourth Grade in Santa Fe Springs in Los Angeles County, California.

Janet married Royal Duane Jensen on July 18, 1958, in the Logan LDS Temple.  They had met at Utah State, and he later served in the U.S. Army while she was teaching school in California.

Janet continued her teaching in Cache County at the Millville-Nibley School while her husband continued his education at Utah State.  They later moved to Champaign, Illinois, where Duane obtained a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, and then to Starkville, Mississippi, where Duane taught and did research at Mississippi State University.

In 1971, the family returned West and took over the Jensen family farm north of Malad.  Here, their last two children were born, bringing the total number of children to 10.

In 1983, Janet returned to Utah State University to take classes needed to become a certified teacher in Idaho, as a result of the death of her husband in a farming accident.  Janet taught reading at Malad Elementary School from 1983 until she retired in 2000.

As a member of the LDS Church, Janet served in numerous callings, including Primary President, a three-year Church Service Mission at Temple Square, and an Extraction Specialist.  She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, reading, gardening, geneaology, her family, and serving others.

In 2008, Janet moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where she lived for almost 10 years.

She is survived by her 10 children:  Mark (Seavmei) Jensen of N. Logan, Utah; Laura (Jethro) Spencer of Washington, Utah; Miriam (Troy ) Curnutt of Pocatello, Idaho; Brian (Lela) Jensen of Meridian, Idaho; Angela (Chris) Johnson of Riverton, Utah;  David (Krishele) Jensen of Malad, Idaho; Ivan Jensen of Malad, Idaho;  Esther (Neal) Larson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Jared (Ashley) Jensen of Columbia, S.
