Funeral Tuesday for J. C. Abbott

Funeral services for Jacob Clifford Abbott, 48, who died Friday at a Blackfoot hospital, were conducted Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Malad Third Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by Jesse Hughes, bishop.

Grant Jensen offered the prayer at the home; Melvin Atkinson played the prelude and postlude music; Ralph Tolman gave the invocation; Edward Crowther, the benediction. The speakers were: Bishop Hughes, A. J. Fuhriman, Pres. S. A. Hendricks, Alma Reynolds and Louis Yearsley sang solos and Leora Brown and Ruel Ipsen sang a duet.

Interment was in the Brigham City cemetery where Bishop Henry Norman of the Corinne LDS Ward dedicated the grave.

Mr. Abbott was born at Paradise, Utah, July 29, 1904, the son of Jacob David and Grace Oldham Abbott.

He was educated at the public school in Pocatello Valley, Oneida County, and the high school at Brigham City, Utah.

He married Percilla Archibald at the LDS Temple, Logan, Utah, Aug 29, 1935; Mr. and Mrs. Abbott made their home in Brigham City and operated a farm in Pocatello Valley until Mr. Abbott was forced to retire on account of illness in 1949.

A member of the LDS Church, he served as a counselor in the Wheatley Ward of the Malad Stake from 1936 to 1938 and later became a member of the Brigham City Fourth Ward.

He is survived by his widow; four sons, Perch H., John H., Kenneth Roger, and Garry Walter Abbott; one daughter, Percilla Marie Abbott; his mother, Mrs. Grace Abbott, Brigham City; three brothers, John Abbott, Malad; Jay Abbott, Tremonton; Arden Abbott; Ogden; two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Summers, Provo, and Mrs. Jennie Stanger, Tremonton.

Burial was in the Brigham City Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Service.
