Illa Jensen Elcock

Illa Jensen Elcock, 94 of Malad passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center in Downey, Idaho. She was born July 20, 1918 in Downey to Joseph A. and Martha Barnes Jensen and was raised and educated in Downey spending a number of summers on the family farm in Cherry Creek.

Illa married Charles Lynn Elcock in Preston, Idaho on August 28, 1942. The marriage was later solemnized and their three sons were sealed to them in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lynn passed away June 16, 1985.

After receiving her teaching certificate, Illa taught school in St. John and Malad for over 25 years. During which time she completed her education receiving both a bachelors and masters degrees from Idaho State University.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and served in numerous capacities.

Illa is survived by her three sons, Von (Annette), Jerome, Idaho; Curt (Carol) of Malad; Larry (Donna), Riverton, Wyoming; as well as 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: Vestal, Lynn, Leon, and Gene, and her sister, Melva Gentry. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Iva Lou Jensen and Connie Jensen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 12:00 noon, at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, Idaho. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Friday prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Malad Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Whispering Pines and Karen Jones (Hospice Alliance) for the tender care they gave Illa during the time she spent there. Also, a special thanks to Bobbi Ward and the Malad 6th Ward Relief Society for providing a family dinner after the funeral services.
