Ila Mae Williams John

Ila Mae Williams John died October 26, 2010 at the age of 84 in the home of her daughter in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by many loved ones after a brave battle with melanoma cancer.

She was born on August 15, 1926 in Malad, Idaho to John Jones Williams and Leona Jones Williams. She grew up in Malad, Idaho. It was there that she met her eternal sweetheart Ellis Wynn John. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on November 15, 1945. They lived their lives together in Portage, Utah. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In her valiant service in the church she served as president, councilor, and secretary in each of Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary organizations, Stake Relief Society councilor, Stake Mother Education Leader, Nursery Leader, and a faithful visiting teacher. Although she didn’t feel like she was musically talented, she sang in the ward choir and was the organist in the Logan Temple where she served for seventeen years in different capacities. She and Daddy loved the time they were able to spend together serving in the temple and the many friends they made there. They served missions for the church in the West Indies and in the Accra, Ghana Temple. Again, their lives were enriched by the wonderful, eternal friends they made by serving.
She served in the community for many years as the Secretary of the Portage Water Company, Judge of Elections, 4-H Leader and PTA President. She was the leader for many ward reunions and was the favorite master of ceremonies for community and family gatherings. She loved to visit with friends as she gathered news to report for the Leader and the Idaho Enterprise.
She is the wonderful mother of Wynn (Pam), Newark, DE, Marvin (Louise) John, Great Falls, MT, Leona (Skip) Chandler, SLC, UT, Marlene (Jerry) Irons, Layton, UT, Peggy (Jed) Ricks, South Jordan, UT, J.
