Hyrum Dean Naylor, 92, passed away on March 19, 2010 in Malad Idaho. Dean was born June 20, 1917 in South Jordan, Utah the 11th of 12 children to Levi Ezra and Emma Maria Naylor. He attended school in South Jordan and graduated from Jordan High School in 1935. Dean enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. He was a plank owner with the aircraft carrier, USS Antietam CV-36. After the war, he attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in banking and finance. While attending the university, he met Mary Rae Featherstone and they were married March 19, 1948 in Lehi, Utah. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on January 18, 1957. Dean spent 35 years working in the banking industry in Utah and Idaho. Dean enjoyed working in his garden every spring and summer up until last year. He also loved to go out walking in the fresh air every day. Dean loved his family and especially his little grandchildren. It was not unusual to see him carrying one on his shoulders, playing with them or even teaching them to climb or slide down the stairs. When the grandkids visited there was always one sitting on his lap in his favorite chair. Dean was active in the LDS church and served in many callings including stake and ward clerk, high priest secretary and as a faithful cub scout husband. Dean is survived by his eternal companion, Mary Rae, six children: Craig (Diane) of Hyrum Utah, Keven (Marcia) of Grandview Washington, Mary Naylor of Malad, Michele (Matt) Ishino of Shelley, Idaho, Curtis Naylor of Grandview, Washington, Laurel (Pat) Origer of Malad; 16 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, all 11 of his brothers and sisters, a grandson and a great granddaughter
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the Malad LDS 3rd Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the Naylor family on Monday evening, March 22 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. and again from 10:30-11:30a.m. on Tuesday prior ot the service at the funeral home.
