Howard Palmer Jones

Howard Palmer Jones, 82, passed away after a short battle with kidney failure on Sunday, February 19, 2017 in Salt Lake City, UT. Howard was born January 21, 1935 in Ogden, UT to Henry and Phyllis Jones. Howard grew up in Malad, ID and graduated from Malad High School in 1953. He graduated from Brigham Young University with his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with high honors in 1958. Howard worked as a successful engineer for 40 years, most of his employment at EDO Western and he was a part time farmer for his entire life.

Howard was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his favorite calling was Bishop of the Winder 5th Ward. He loved the Savior and faithfully served Him until the end. Howard was sealed to his eternal companion, Gayla N Adams, on June 1, 1960 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Howard raised his family in Salt Lake City and returned to Malad, ID after he retired.

More than anything else, Howard loved his family and found joy in spending time with them. Howard traveled the world for his job, but his most favorite place to visit was Yellowstone National Park. He took his family to Yellowstone every year, and his grandchildren lovingly call him “Chief Yellowstone.” Howard was an avid BYU sports fan and loved spending time on his farm.

Howard will be remembered for his sense of humor, his example of hard work, humility, love, and devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife, Gayla; 4 children, David (Cyndi) Jones, Steve (Lisa) Jones, Angie (Chuck) Evans, Melinda (James) Wilson; 15 grandchildren; 2 future great grandchildren; 3 sisters Donna (Leon, deceased) Monson, Carolyn (Ron) Jensen, Kathryn (Earl) Cannon. Preceded in death by his parents; Henry and Phyllis, his precious first daughter Lori Ann and his sister Norma Sharp. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 24 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W. Friends may visit with the family at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 10:30-11:30a.m. prior to the service.
