Howard Evan Vanderwood

Howard EVan Vanderwood, born November 15, 1913, in Malad, Idaho in a sod-roofed log house on Samaria Lane, son of EVan and Annie Thomas Vanderwood, passed away January 16, 1993, in the Malad hospital.

He graduated from Malad High School, Class of 1932. He attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.

Howard was a farmer and well driller, drilling the first fresh-water well in Promontory Point, Utah and for 35 years he was the real estate broker for Vanderwood Real Estate in Malad. He was a member and Elder for the LDS Church and had served as a home teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Hancock Vanderwood, of Malad; two daughters and six sons, Cheryl V. Madson, Ogden, Utah, Donna Jean V. Erskine, West Jordan, Utah; H. Brent, El Toro, California; Jon Malad, Idaho, Evan Pocatello, Idaho, D Alvin and Bill, West Valley, Utah; and David Kearns, Utah and one sister, Carol Dodson, of Los Angeles, California. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe, in 1973, and a daughter, Beverly, in December 1992. He was blessed with 24 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan 19, at noon in the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel, Counselor Lynn Schow officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Benson-Horsley Funeral Home.
