Hilda Jane Castleton

TREMONTON – Hilda Jane Castleton, 105, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2002 in Tremonton, UT. She was born April 28, 1897 in Bountiful, UT, the oldest child of Thomas Joseph and Hattie Pack Hoard. She was raised in the Big Horn of Wyoming as part of the last colonization company called by the church.

She married Harold James Castleton on October 10, 1917 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were the parents to five children and spent their lives in Malad, Garland and Logan.

Hilda was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and filled leadership positions in every women’s auxiliary. She and her husband served as full time missionaries in the Eastern States Mission and in the North Indian Mission. They also served for many years as officiators in the Logan LDS Temple. She was an avid student of the gospel, and a gifted artist whose paintings are treasured by numerous family members and friends.

Our mother, grandmother and great grandmother is survived by Ralph (Emelyn) Castleton of Costa Mesa, CA; daughter in law, Mary Allen (Devon) Price of Ogden, UT; Merle (Ben) Call of Bountiful, UT; Louise (Bryce) Ericksen of Beaver Dam, UT; Mary (Raymond) Hall of Cedar City, UT. also surviving are her brother Lorin Pack Howard and over 157 descendants spanning five generations. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, her son Stanley (Mary) Castleton in 1946, a granddaughter, Jane Ericksen in 1951, and many other relatives.

Funeral services for this great woman, who traveled by covered wagon and jet airplane and who witnessed history in three centuries, will be held in the Logan Fifth Ward Chapel on July 23, 2002. Interment will be in the Malad, ID City Cemetery.
