DOWNEY – Herman Douglas Salvesen, 86, of Downey, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 1998 in Logan, Utah.
He was born April 30, 1911 in Downey, a son of George S. and Elizabeth Johnson Salvesen.
He was reared and educated in Downey. As a young man he had joined and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He married Marion Mock February 17, 1936 in Logan, and they later solemnized their marriage in the Logan LDS Temple.
Herman had farmed and ranched in Downey with his brother, Orville, for 62 years. He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, and also enjoyed fishing.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Downey Lions Club, the Downey Mounted Posse, and had also served on the Downey City Council.
Herman is survived by his wife, Marion, of Downey; one son, Ronald D. (Peggy) Salvesen of Downey; two daughters, Patricia Ann Davis of Downey, and Bonnie (Boyd) Hall of Pocatello; 17 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren; one brother, Orville (Lola) Salvesen of Downey; two sisters, Mabel Salvesen and Sybil (Fred) Hadley, both of Downey.
He was preceded in death by her parents and also seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 1998 at noon in the Downey LDS First Ward Chapel, with Bishop Lavern Brim officiating. Friends may call at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview, Arimo, on Friday, Jan. 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetery.
