Helen, 88, passed away August 28, 2013 in Malad, Idaho. She returned to Heavenly Father for a wonderful reunion with her husband, Thomas, her twin sons, David and Daniel, her daughter, Elizabeth, as well as her parents, two brothers and six sisters.

Helen was born the 8th of 10 children of Wilford McKendrick DeLaMare and Mae Katurah Read DeLaMare on August 23, 1925 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was raised and educated in Pocatello but graduated from St. Anthony High School since she was employed at her sister’s diner. After graduation, she returned to Pocatello where she met and fell in love with Thomas Albert Strah, who was stationed at the air base in Pocatello while serving in the United States Air Force. They married November 5, 1944, in her parent’s living room and then later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple.

After planning to move to California, Helen and Tom and their young family stopped in Pocatello to visit. They stayed put and raised their family. They later move to Malad to be near their daughter Kathy and her family.

Helen enjoyed various types of employment through the years. However, her most important job was taking care of her children. Besides raising a family, Helen loved cooking, sewing, interior decorating, and singing. She shared her passion of cooking and sewing as a 4-H volunteer for several years instructing her daughters and their friends. Her beautiful soprano voice complimented many community and ward choirs in Pocatello and Malad.

Helen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served faithfully in many callings. She and Tom had the opportunity to also serve a mission to the Tulsa Oklahoma area. In her later years, she enjoyed riding on the Pocatello Regional Transit bus and visiting with friends at the Malad Senior Citizens Center.
Helen is survived by one sister, Verleen Barker (Centerville) and seven of her ten children: Thomas Michael of Arlington, VA; Jeffrey of Magna, UT; Robert of Seattle, WA; Steven of Salt Lake City, UT; Tina Allen (Mike) of Tucson, AZ; Kathy Ray (Scott) of Malad, ID, and Melanie Strah-Hymas of Midvale, UT. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Helen will be missed by the many lives she has touched.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 5, 2013 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel, located at 1250 n. 1100 W. Friends may visit with the Strah family on Wednesday evening from 7-8 pm at the Horsley Funeral Home 132 W. 300 N. and on thursday at the funeral home prior to services from 10:30-11:30 am.
